The Amicale LEA association

The Amicale’s members at the service of Strasbourg students

With no less than 16 different language combinations and two bachelor’s degrees, Applied Foreign Languages (LEA) students from Strasbourg may have trouble getting to know each other. Since its creation in 1992, the LEA students’ association, named the “Amicale LEA”, has aimed to encourage meetings between them. Two actions coordinated with the LEA department help on a daily basis to achieve this goal: the organisation of a sponsorship of 1st year students by their elders, and listening and advice services for those facing difficulties. In addition, the LEA students’ association regularly organises festive evenings which are opportunities to get to know each other and build friendships for all the students.

A democratic student association

The Amicale LEA also intends to play a role in the training of students. As a school of citizenship, it organises democratic elections every year in September in an amphitheatre. The 800 LEA students on campus are invited to stand as candidates and to vote for their representatives. The board of the Amicale, which is composed of students from the 1st to the 3rd year elected for one year, currently has 12 volunteers. They perform the following functions: presidency, vice-presidency, accounting, administration tasks, communication, graphic design, and mediation.

A professionalising commitment

Through their collective activities, the members of the LEA students’ association gain maturity and acquire professional skills: teamworking, working according to objectives, account management, organising a communication campaign, etc. Thus, from the beginning of the 2019 academic year, those who wish will be able to have this experience officially recognised as part of their degree under the so-called Teaching Unit “d’ouverture” (an academic unit, which allows students to choose a course).

A student association at the heart of the LEA department’s lifeThe role of the Amicale is crucial in the professionalising Focus-LEA programme. They communicate with students through social networks. As treasurer, it finances some of these projects, such as the creation of the 1st LEA Student Literary Prize. It also manages grants obtained by other projects, such as the Prothélan theatre project.

By empowering students through its various activities, the association helps to improve the educational relationship. It is at the heart of the LEA department’s life in Strasbourg.

How to help the Amicale LEA

The annual membership card, which costs 5€, is a good way to support their action. It gives you discounts on parties and on a range of cultural activities in Strasbourg.

The Amicale LEA is waiting for new volunteering students to help them find their future calling. If you, LEA students, wish to serve our educational community, they are waiting for you! Please contact them at amicaleleastrasbourg@gmail.com or on their Facebook page.
