A cultural magazine reflecting the LEA license
The LEA degree from the University of Strasbourg focuses on cultural openness to the contemporary world. Several courses give students the opportunity to write thought-provoking articles, often very well-written and in several languages. The project of the cultural magazine The good LEAf answers students’ desire to promote their work, and the motivation of some of them to practice aspects of the publishing world to which they aspire.
The students in charge of the project are given raw versions of articles pre-selected by their teachers. As publication managers, they must make a new choice based on the originality of the subject, the interest of the topic for the majority of the readers, its current relevance, variety of themes and genres, the writing quality and ensuring as many budding journalists are represented as possible. They then proofread and rewrite the articles, in order to ensure a coherent layout. The final aspect of the work is to work on computer graphics to layout all the articles and create a nice presentation.
Editing and computer graphics: a creation from A to Z
Throughout the creation of The good LEAf, magazine, students are supervised by referees who provide them with the necessary knowledge and advice for the smooth running of the project. An introduction to Indesign Computer-Aided Production software is included to facilitate the creation of computer graphics.
An ever-expanding magazine
After its online publication, the editors widely distribute The Good Leaf, thus illustrating the dynamism of the license that created it. Communication around the project is indeed essential to gather an ever-increasing readership and ensure the development of the cultural magazine.
